Absolutely nothing to do with domains, but I get the impression that a good chunk of us here spend half our time monkeying about on spreadsheets so thought it was a good place to ask.

In the recent Excel update they've changed how copy and paste works and it's absolutely doing my head in. Previously when you pasted something in excel it pasted whatever was in the clipboard - makes perfect sense, right?

Now if you've previously copied something in excel and the copy highlight is still active, it copies that instead of whatever is in the clipboard.

Is there any way to turn this off? It's totally killing my " CTRL + C / ALT TAB / CTRL + V " game.

No way to turn it off currently I don't think.

Windows-V and pick from the clip options maybe, but a lot of action on "highlighted thing" is coming - thank/blame 'AI' for it :p

From ChatGPT - not sure if it helps or not but ChatGPT is where I go for most tech solutions like this these days, on the face of it it seems ok.

"The recent Excel update has indeed changed how the copy-and-paste function interacts with the clipboard, which has frustrated many users. Now, if you copy something in Excel and the selection is still highlighted, it overrides anything else in the clipboard when you paste—even if you've copied something from another program afterward. This behavior disrupts the classic Ctrl+C / Alt+Tab / Ctrl+V workflow, especially when switching between applications.

Unfortunately, Excel currently lacks a built-in setting to revert this functionality to its previous state. Microsoft is aware of user feedback on this issue, but a definitive solution has yet to be released. For now, one workaround is to press the Esc key after copying in Excel to remove the active highlight, allowing you to paste from other clipboard content instead. Alternatively, using third-party clipboard managers can help by providing more control over clipboard items if you frequently switch between programs

If the issue persists or gets in the way of your productivity, it may be worth providing feedback directly to Microsoft through Excel's feedback options, as they often prioritize updates based on user input."

Thanks, yeah that's kind of what I figured but thought I'd ask just in case.

The problem with the workarounds is that I have to remember to do them... plus it really puts a damper on working at speed because it constantly kills the flow.

At least it sounds like it's not just me that's annoyed by it though!
