I know it's not a new thing but I still can't wrap my head around the pricing. At £9 per month per domain, it's robbery, for a service that should arguably be provided by the registry for free. Who is going to want to spend £5 minimum on a domain, and then £9 per month to make sure nobody robs it? Sometimes I wonder where Nominet dreams up these ideas.

Anyone?

I would understand if it relied upon a rep at Nominet doing the verification/unlocking like with the .com registry lock, but it seems it's just all automated. So I'm with you, a rip off.

That being said, any additional hoops to prevent your main domain getting changed without your knowledge, £90 a year is pennies.

I see companies charging £100 a year for this stuff though, it should be very much less. Pennies per domain, or one flat fee per year, it’s a good idea but it just seems way overpriced for something that, in reality, should be free.

You'll have the 'normal' gTLD transfer lock in a couple of years across the plethora of .uk extensions once the new software finally goes live.

At that point I expect they'll do Registry Lock manually again as it's pointless if automated.
