Surely with the costs involved in the DRS, and the loss of business, it w as a no brainer to pay the $1200ish that the domain was listed for?

Interesting to see the DAN page has it now listed at $3500

Thanks for pointing out this case.

The decision references the Phoenix Life Limited case, which is a very helpful case for domainers and the legitimacy of the business model.

An interesting read - thanks for posting.

TL;DR: The Respondent was asking $1210 for the domain name, and on the day that Nominet received the DRS the GBP-USD exchange rate was 1.2792. So the Complainant could have bought the domain name there and then for £946 - plus a bit to allow for the forex spread and commission, but probably minus at least as much by negotiating on price.

Instead, the Complainant decides to spend £750 (+ VAT = £900?) on a risky DRS that will certainly involve a lot of work, and may or may not get them the domain name two or three months later.

You have to wonder how people who make such piss-poor decisions survive in business?

It reminds me of someone else, but it's late so I can't think who at the moment...
