Anyone have a preference?

The election statements are worth a look, not sure why they are hidden behind a login.

Our Board plays a crucial role in running Nominet successfully – from setting strategy and ensuring we invest appropriately and wisely, to providing oversight across our activities.

With that in mind, we’re pleased to announce that there are two candidates standing for the one available seat in this year’s 2025 non-executive director election.

They are:
  • Kieren McCarthy
  • Rob Golding
The successful candidate will serve a three-year term and help to oversee the delivery of the strategy agreed by the Board in 2024. This includes ensuring we meet our obligations to all stakeholders, providing valuable industry experience, and to bring member perspectives to Board discussions.
Full candidate details and their election statements are available on the Member Hub.
We’re also hosting a ‘meet the candidates’ webinar on Thursday 11th September from 2pm – 3pm. Members can register to attend on the Member Hub.

Are you ready to admit that Bitcoin can be hacked mate? 😂
Not in any of the ways discussed.

People losing their coins / money / pensions / etc happens every day through much simpler phishing and social engineering scams

Even then the sums in total are miniscule in comparison with international bank money laundering and dodgy gov't contracts

It's almost as if the sysyems are designed to funnel into the pockets of criminals ....

Don't worry Rob, was just winding you up 😂 😂

Just for the record, I fully agree it can't be in the way that I previously thought.

There are some interesting scams/hacks that we can discuss over beers, including a few 'worrying' trends - you at the Nominet event in Sept ?

And, keeping the thread on track, do I get your #1 preference vote for NED ?

McCarthy seems to be backed by Simon Blackler, so I'll be voting appropriately.

If you get in Rob, I will tear Nominet apart! You know what my problem with you is?

Rob, it is important your true character is shown if you are running for Non-executive director.

Helmuts, if you are reading this, the most foolish thing you could have done was make that post on your forum regarding this individual. You silly sausage.

I've met Rob, one of the nicest and most genuine people you can meet. I don't have any problem saying Rob would be a good asset to Nominet if elected.

Have you considered the possibility that Rob was still asleep at 5:26am?

I assume you're referring to the sentence "I do not yet have a confirmed answer from Rob (we’ve had a personal falling-out, which was entirely my fault, and we are both working to resolve and move past it)" here.

Given the number of foolish things Helmuts has done, labelling this the most foolish is quite a claim.

Does anyone know what this is all about, or what these four posts said before they were edited?

No, Rob is a night stalker so I thought he might be up and about at 5.26am. He is usually showing on here in the early hours and yes, you got the right post regarding Helmuts and that post is exactly the one I am referring to. You are also correct by stating Helmuts has said many foolish things but generally they can be ignored.

Hello Graeme,

It is commendable that you stand up for an assumed friend, Meskonis did tell that this forum is 'full of Rob's friends' however, I would describe him has exactly the opposite of your portrayal. I would also expect him you come across as you have described him to someone like you, however, that is not the case with everyone is Robert.

how and why and what is your problem ?
I'll get back to you on this. I have a long standing dislike of Nominet's running of our namespace. I will be speaking with them shortly as we are due a catch-up. The last spat we had resulted in them telling me to run for the NED position, however, I can put people to sleep with manifesto revelations like Kieran can but I will drop some idea here before I fuck off.

Hello Rees

It can assure you not a case of blind loyalty to anyone, in the 10-15 years he's been around, nobody else has flagged an issue with Rob - and this is a small world.

I do know the background to this and have for sometime, if there were truth to it, I would expect other avenues for resolution to have been taken, which they weren't. It's not something that should be discussed or even hinted at on a forum in my opinion, this is very unfair to Rob who is rightly not fanning the flames in public.

All I can do is repeat what I said previously, I'd have no problem voting for or recommending others vote for Rob.

Bit of a weird one, init.

I see that an Acorn staff member called "AcornDomains-News" (a different account to the Acorn Newsbot) has started a thread over there titled "Nominet Misled Members About Court Orders". The post reproduces a post yesterday on the weightedvoting.uk website and is highly critical of both Nominet itself and two of its staff, Nick Wenban-Smith and Will Guyatt, effectively branding them liars. (To cover my own arse, I emphasise that I'm only reporting the allegation, not endorsing it.)

Helmuts has posted four times in other Acorn threads since this thread appeared, so he must have seen it. I just wonder how he reconciles his blanket ban on criticizing Nominet or its staff with his allowing this post to remain up. Hopefully he'll post soon to explain the apparent inconsistency/hypocrisy (take your pick), but I'm not holding my breath.

More relevant to this thread, what are the NED candidates views on the Weighted Voting case?
