The .uk domains spotted in the wild thread

I wish I could find some people using .UK domains. I can't find them anywhere and nobody wants them. I don't keep stumbling upon them left, right and centre...

I know it never happens and is made up in my own head - but here's another example of a fully fledged website with real content on a .UK that I saw on X.

.co.uk redirects to the .uk

could the majority of your portfolio be .uk without the matching .co.uk by any chance?
Any names that I have invested in, 9 out of 10 times I have been attracted to them because I could secure both .UK and .co.uk, purchases predating RoR drop, at the same time.

Recently I have picked up some .UK names on their own, some for a premium.

When I create websites, I secure the .COM... and then secure the .UK and .CO.UK. I wouldn't create a website on .UK, cause I like to create sites with mass appeal.

I believe in the .UK more than the .CO.UK. I think it looks better. People should have switched and dropped .CO.UK en masse and told Nominet where to go imho.

You're fighting more than 30 years of people being used to greatdomain.co.uk which I suspect means that a lot of people think greatdomain.uk is a typo... Ten years on and .uk may be gradually becoming more acceptable but it's going to be a slow path to acceptance.

For a global audience then of course .com is the preference but for mass appeal to a UK audience then .co.uk is the only way to go. There's also an argument that with the perception of .com being "American", the current and growing backlash against Trump/Musk could have negative connotations for non-US companies using .com domains.

You can't though. Or if you did you'd need to keep the .co.uk and 301 it so Nominet aren't going to care, they're going to get their extra extortion fee either way.

Agree, to that bit.

Yes it would need to be en masse. The chance was there, but it wasn't taken and it was the implementation of how they introduced it was wot dun it! I can live in hope in my little bubble, though 😃. I wish to remain deluded on this subject but not delusional.
