Tyres.co.uk £300,000

Nice sale and congrats to the seller.

£300k is a huge amount but the tyre business is very profitable and developed correctly they should soon see a return on investment.

Nice to see quality names still going for good money!

I would have tried to go £305k for the pair if I was the buyer. Which would almost certainly have worked if he bought the .uk before the real sale was public.

nice sale but noticed that they didn't seem to want the .uk
I'm not sure we are able to say that to be honest, well from the information on this page anyway - unless someone knows the seller or the buyer.

Was the .co.uk owned by the same owner as the .uk?
Was the .uk for sale?
Was the .uk for sale at a lower price than the .co.uk?

There are some pairs I have where I would sell the .co.uk but wouldn't sell the .uk unless it was a crazy stupid price. Maybe the seller here could have been the same thoughts as me.

But yes, it could also be the other way where they didn't want, never heard of .uk.

Great news for short descriptive names though. My thoughts are that AI is going to sink Google with endless meaningless crap websites and render Google useless in the coming years. What's going to separate the sites is branding, short powerful domains either .co.uk or .uk where users can type in domain names again. Tyres.co.uk is a great investment in the long run.

Hi Greywing,

Agreed—I’m just jumping to conclusions and don’t actually know if they purchased both domains.

I just don’t think that, if they did, they’d have a landing page with ads on it when they could simply redirect it to the .co.uk.

Not to worry mate, I think your conclusions are reasonable and if I was having a bet I'd still say statistically your conclusions have a higher chance of being right than wrong.

To compare this sale with a sale of a similar domain name another in another ccTLD with a DUM of over 5m domain names, and another large economy, ‘pneus.com.br’ (‘Pneus’ is the word for ‘Tyres’ in Brazilian Portuguese) sold for R$220,000 in 2020 according to an announcement that was made by the .br registry on their web site.

To get an accurate price in GBP, one should look back to see what the BRL/GBP exchange rate was at the time.

Do you think the .uk registry should post a similar article?

I know the buyer of the domain, he said he has a lot planned for it - he has a long history with SEO and building brands.

I didn't realise he paid so much tbh. But, he has had a lot of successful projects, and I know he got a .com last month which cost a lot more than tyres did.

How well do you think you know the buyer? What do you think he has planned for the domain name? How long do you believe his history is with SEO involvement? What do you know about the other successful projects you tell us he has had? How much more do you think the other domain name he purchased cost him on a percentage scale? I look forward to knowing. 👍🏻

We were both active on BlackHatWorld together about 10 years ago. He has done SEO for as long as I have, maybe 12-13 years, he is one of the most successful at it - hardly an SEO nowadays, just an entrepreneur who uses SEO to increase value in his brands.

I know he sold his last project for £9m, a CDB brand. He also has a Bollywood production company that licenses Indian films in the UK, don't know much about that.

The other domain was a .com of similar price, short single world. He buys a lot of generics off DL.

I'm pretty sure I know who you mean. Any chance if you next speak to him you can ask him for his thoughts on the .uk version of it? If he's willing to share why it wasn't possible, or of interest for him to acquire it.
