Just thought I'd share my first sale experience so far since being moved over to Afternic from Dan.com. I had my first BIN sale come through on Tuesday. They just sent a generic message telling me to unlock the domain and provide an auth code etc and it won't let me proceed in my control panel without proving one. So basically they've sent instructions for a .com transfer... it's not set up for .co.uk transfers at all.

I've sent 2 messages asking for the correct instructions explaining I can't proceed without them... and I've received no reply whatsoever. Yet i've been getting email reminders telling me to hurry up and proceed with the transfer🤯 and they claim to be the "world's premier domain marketplace". Does anyone know how to get them to actually do thier job and make the transfer happen? I'm assuming a registrant transfer or tag change but I can't do so until they confirm.

So far it's been sitting there for 3 days so without any action, goodness knows what the buyer must think too. How is this meant to be an improvement on dan.com? It would have been transferred and paid out probably on the first day or 2 max with them.

I am looking at other marketplaces but it seems those have their pitfalls too going by other peoples experiences.

Hi Alistair,

You need to get the Transfer team on live chat, They will tell you to change the IPS-TAG to GODADDY.

Cheers
Karl

It is frustrating, they should have this process set up by now.

i just sold a .com and the buyer has the choice to wait 60 days for the transfer lock or push transfer. I would have to wait 60 days for funds if they choose the first option.

At dan.com they would let you push and pay out straight away.

Hi Karl, thanks however I can't find the live chat at all. Some googling tells they launched their live chat feature a couple of weeks ago and there should be a "live chat" icon on their contact page but it's not showing for me, can you see it?

Hit settings and then contact us. then scroll down bottom right of screen (footer) will be the live chat icon.

They've just taken dan.com and shaved about 10 years of really good features off basically including GBP sales, quick transfers and good support.

Still not seeing it, i've seen their twitter post about where I should be seeing it too but for some reason it's just not appearing for me. Is it possibly becasue they are not operating just now since they are US based?

Are you not getting the chat logo bottom right?

They are on there i had to speak to this morning.

Thats frustrating, i find the chat support much better than email support.

It is frustrating yeah, they've basically undone around 10 years of brilliant features that made dan.com so easy to use, force us to deal in dollars and charge us extra for the pleasure.

Normally they don't take too long to get in touch with instructions once they realise it's a .UK.

The whole thing just seems so dumb to me. They would have been much better off doing it the other way around.

I actually forgot about migrating my domains from Dan so now I'm in a weird auto-migration limbo. They said it was going to happened a week or so ago but I haven't heard a peep and I don't have the option to do it manually any more.

Well.. I say forgot, I just didn't want to accept I'd have to migrate so was leaving it until the last possible moment. Oops.

All they give a shit about is their ability to make money. They don't want companies doing stuff like that at scale that aren't them, so they do the calculation and buy them.

Would have been nice if DAN didn't sell to GoDaddy, but I wouldn't turn down $71.4m either.

I did the same and ended up in limbo - however this afternoon they said migration had started and it now says most have migrated. But I don't seem to have any control over BIN prices or the ability to delete domains. I had started transferring some domains over to sedo - I know sedo is a bit dated but you know where you are with sedo. NB. I have now been able to access our new afternic account and update prices/delete domains etc - doesn't look anywhere near as sophisticated or smooth as dan.

How strange, I am just not getting that icon at all. Tried it on 2 different browsers too.
No live chat icon for me either on three browsers.
@AlistairH, @diablo, you're both Scottish aren't you?

Could this outrage be the work of some Sassenach oppressor working for Afternic I wonder?

Have you had an epiphany @ben?

Capitalism is an issue and humans are stupid and selfish. You can make a lot of money without selling your soul to corporations. Look at Krystal Hosting, a prime example from our very own Simon Blackler.
