continuing the trend of domain platform discussions. I bought a uk domain name at the BIN price and Sedo could not complete because the seller is unresponsive. Very frustrating. Sedo have been professional about it in the responses and actioned the refund but I wonder how many domains on there are not actually for sale??

I had exactly the same on DAN about 6 months ago only the seller had already sold it elsewhere.

Infuriating at the time and cost me about £50 in transaction/conversion fees, which when I mentioned to DAN, didn’t receive a response.

I suppose it’s the responsibilities of the sellers really, rather than the platform.

They told me legal action against the seller is possible but that is pointless

I've lost count of the times I have gone to list a name on one or other platform and I get the "already listed by another seller" message.

Just part of the landscape unfortunately.

They did go to the trouble of pointing the nameservers to the sale listing, so it’s not like I searched within Sedo. I went there direct!

For years there have been long-running and wide-spread scams of people scraping nameservers of one parking/selling platform and then listing the names (that they don't have any connection to) in their account(s) at other platforms.

Whilst a very very very small %age may be trying to frontrun a sale for arbitrage (rare but I have seen it), 99.9999% of them are pure scammers hoping to get paid - several registrars seem either complacent about it or complicit with it as fast-transfer scams leading to domain loss are sadly way too frequent.

This has happened to me several times, including one name I did really want which bugged me.

Although in that case they ended up dropping it a year or two later and I managed to catch it, so that worked out in my favour in the end!

Something else I seem to get more on sedo than anywhere else are overly generous bids that never go anywhere - we had one not too long ago on a domain that would probably sell for £100 / £200 on DL and they offered £20k.

Of course nothing came of it...

I listed a few names on Dynadot ladt year - 8 of the 25 got offers, only 1 actually paid - so it's endemic to all the platforms

Yes, quite a few people said this was a problem with Dan too.

Sedo seems to be the only place I'm getting offers for 10x to 100x what I have the domains listed for on Dan though...
