I get the odd phone call from time to time. This one was particularly eventful.

Me: Hello how may I help?
Caller: I have a domain name that I think you would be very interested in.
Me: Is it a .co.uk or .uk domain name?
Caller: No its a .org.uk
Me: Sorry, I don't buy or sell .org.uk domain names.
Caller: Would you like to know what it is?
Me: Sorry, I don't buy or sell .org.uk domain names of any kind.
Caller: (Getting louder and faster) - You don't even want to know what it is then...
Me: I'm very sorry but I don't buy or sell .org.uk domain names.
Caller: So you dont want to know my domain?
Me: Sorry, I don't buy or sell .org.uk domain names.
Caller: Can I just tell you what it is then? (Quite loud)
Me: You could try Dan.com or Sedo.co... (Cuts me down mid-sentance)
Caller: Well... I am going to tell you what it is anyway... (In an abrupt tone)
Me: OK shoot...
Caller: blah-something.org.uk (Long Pause)
Me: Sorry, I don't buy or sell .org.uk domain names.
Caller: Rants in a different language or unintelligible English and hangs up.

:)

You're very patient. I would have hung up at the end of line 5.

In my experience there's always too much of a draw to waste their time and get to the swearing bit at the end. Always a laugh.

As soon as he said "Well... I am going to tell you what it is anyway..." you should have cut him off! Anyone remember the James Whale radio show on late night TV in the early '90s? He was a master at cutting off abusive callers (all his callers).

But I would have let him say what the domain was at the start anyway. You never know, it could be something juicy like a gigantic NGO's former domain, or one of these government department legacy domains that were put on .org.uk for years before being cancelled or moved onto .gov.uk. IIRC one of them went for >£30k on DL, I think it was related to helptobuy or something like that.

Someone paid £400 for holiday.org.uk today - it has no links so not an seo purchase.

And £20k for panos.org.uk yesterday on DL

Thats entirely unrelated - panos was bought for its link profile and would have went for £20k on a .co.uk

Holiday.org.uk has no links at all, it was purely a domain purchase not a backlink profile purchase.

Not unrelated. We are talking about whether a .org.uk domain could be valuable or not, whether it should be dismissed out of hand without knowing what the domain is or given consideration. Neither the OP nor the caller mentioned whether the .org.uk domain in question had a link profile or not. It was outright dismissed before this was known. But some .org.uk domains clearly are valuable and panos.org.uk is a very recent example of one, regardless of the reasons why. Therefore is it relevant to this discussion. My view is unless you are deluged with thousands of offers of .org.uk domains every day, I would say it is worth finding out what is on offer before dismissing it in case it happens to be a valuable one.
