Useful domain valuation tool?

I tried it on a few .co.uk i have and if i get the proces it suggested ill be happy :)

I ran an evaluation on the domain SmartGlasses.com, owned by the supposed "DomainKing" (only because I saw it on his Twitter banner image). The response is in 'smartglasses_com.txt'.

I couldn't read his thoughts on it as a tool, because his account/tweets are protected.

It's quite funny reading the prompt used to generate the output. You can read that in the file named domain-valuation-prompt.txt

As you'd expect, plenty of hallucinations in the response, and failure to provide references.

Based on his post on LinkedIn by the founder;
"It consists of a no-registration domain name appraisal tool utilizing a huuuuuge database of resale comps."

Just because you instruct the LLM to check namebio.com in your prompt, it doesn't mean it has access to their database.

Who was voted the best domain investor in 2022 though?

looky.uk, at least our valuation tool is based on real metrics. That being said, having cross-checks against similar sales inside the logic is useful, but it isn't a metric that is foolproof. If I buy looky.com, who says looky.uk is going to get the same price just because someone was interested in .com? I think any valuation tool, including my own, is only useful as a guide, to get some insight into what it might be worth.

It valued looky.uk at £6000 to an end-user. teeth.co.uk (which sold for £10k) at £17-27k. Nobody in this industry can account for the human factor, especially not AI.

Thanks to @seemly for discovering the LLM prompt information.

We're all really just waiting for DSH API to go live 😆

That's a great short interview. The bits that stuck out the most for me was:
  • A premium domain isn’t just marketing; it’s your world headquarters, your customer acquisition engine, and your brand’s foundation, compounding value every single day.
  • Domain value = Lifetime profit per customer × Customer flow × 10 years.

I have started dabbling and doing some tiny bits to that project over the last week or so. Mainly to protect the time and effort I have put into it over the years.

I might start adding a few features to it over the coming weeks and months, but I think an API is fairly unlikely, mainly because it's difficult to see the value in time spent to implement it.

You could charge for access keys? I'd pay and I'm sure others might too?
