I am writing this in a personal capacity to make .uk registrars aware, particularly those who rely on Web Domain Manager because it is going away come 9th February 2027.
As part of .UK Standardisation, Dragon Domain Manager will replace the .UK Web Domain Manager on Tuesday, 9 February.
To help .uk registrars prepare for the transition, sign up for the demo environment of Dragon Domain Manager is now open.
If you are a .uk registrar visit <https://registrars.nominet.uk/registry/dot-uk/dragon-domain-manager-demo/> to read about how to signup.
Sign up process
When signing up for access, you will need to provide:
Some Observations
WDM was built at a time before EPP was implemented with the .uk registry, therefore WDM does not interface to EPP in the background. Dragon Domain Manager is a web interface which does interface to EPP in the background. Operations and tasks are conducted differently. If you rely on WDM, you may find Dragon Domain Manager quite different at first. Some tasks need to be performed in different ways because of the fact that it is a web interface to EPP operating in the background.
In particular, as previously detailed (page 11) by Nominet, they are updating the .uk registry lexicon so ‘Change of Registrant’ is used to mean a domain being updated from one Registrant to another and ‘Transfer’ is used in relation to the inter-registrar transfer process. This is starkly different to how the WDM interface presents these operations so .uk registrars will need to get used to this new terminology.
.uk moves to Pull Transfer. TAC (Transfer Authorisation Codes) also commonly referred to as EPP code/Auth Code in'.com' will be required to enact transfers of domain names from one registrar to another. The .ukdemo web based test environment permits transferring of domain names to other registrars who have also signed up.
Nominet are asking for feedback and comments via their UserVoice feedback service, located at Nominet.uservoice.com (a separate signup to this is required).
.ukdemo zone is for testing with the Dragon Domain Manager preview only. It will not be accessible via EPP so ignore any references to .ukdemo in respect of EPP that appear in Online Services under gTLD's; it's non functional. An EPP testbed for .uk registry future state (as of 9th February 2027) is available here. It requires a Client Certificate which may be self signed (i.e. free/no cost) and needs to be uploaded to Online Services. IP auth currently functions for this testbed but that'll be removed in the live environment so from that point on the only way to access EPP will be to upload Client Certificates to Nominet via their portal The EPP testbed for .uk registry future state certificates are managed through the “Tag Settings” panel until .uk transitions to the live platform.
