Why Nominet’s Safeguarding Conclusions Do Not End This Matter

We have been informed by Nominet that its safeguarding review concerning matters raised about a Nominet member has now been concluded.

We do not accept that this brings the matter to an end.

We are currently conducting our own detailed review of how Nominet handled the issues raised, including the process by which conclusions were reached and the standards applied. Once that work is complete, we will publish a structured response on this forum setting out our concerns about governance, safeguarding procedures and institutional accountability.

These matters go beyond any single case and raise serious questions of public trust in how safeguarding is managed within a critical piece of the UK’s internet infrastructure. We believe it is in the public interest that those questions are examined properly, transparently and without institutional defensiveness.

We will pursue all appropriate regulatory and legal routes to ensure that this happens.

Last August you posted umpteen times hinting at some sort of casting couch incident during (or shortly after) the 2023 Nazi summit some two years earlier. Despite repeated promises that further details would be forthcoming, they never were. Nor did you even deign to tell us whether the alleged misconduct was criminal, tortious, or just sleazy and unprofessional.

Now, having complained to Nominet, you're unhappy with their response. True to form you haven't specified what you told them or how they responded, but I would hazard a guess that they have gently pointed out that the Nazi summit was nothing to do with them.

I'm sorry if that sounds dismissive, but IMHO your presentation of this has been shambolic from the outset and does the complainant no favours whatsoever.

Just so you know, the individual who is at the centre of my discontent will be referred to as 'Mr Nominet' as Nominet seems to be happy to have him onboard and 'Mr Nominet' uses his connection as a tool to try to impress the less informed. I think you probably get the picture.

'Casting couch', interesting choice of words, but entirely off point and highly inappropriate in this case. I understand that there is probably an element of frustration at not getting all the details in my initial blast. Unfortunately, it was restricted by other ethical considerations; otherwise, I would have exposed the entire episode and all the gory details on day one. Actually, Jeff, I did at around 4 am, but removed them shortly after, following a request to tone it down. Hell, the post above is not showing my initial words, it was polished to comply with professional standards.

In my opinion, yes, MY OPINION, it has been a 'whitewash' and damage limitation to protect them, again MY OPINION, which I intend to prove along with a case to show Nominet is not fit for purpose and should be eradicated from the role of managing the UK domain space. Nominet was simply given a chance to do the right thing, but chose self-preservation instead. Regarding the 'Nazi Summit' as you put it, I would forget about it for now while the 'Mr Nominet' saga continues. Let me say that 'Mr Nominet' will be responsible for a lot of 'collateral' misery when we reach the finishline. 'Shambolic' may be an understatement. I have heard worse, to be honest, Jeff, but from now on I'll try to be more precise, professional, and articulate, maintaining control.

You don't sound dismissive, Jeff, just a little annoyed at being left without the full context; however, I very much appreciate your response to my public statement regarding Nominet's member statement.

Just inform you that what comes next from this end requires meticulous planning and perfect execution, so there might be a little quiet before the storm, so to speak.

Just to clarify, further to the post above, I was told Nominet may have been let down by the third party handling the investigation, but for me, MY OPINION remains the same. 'Mr Nominet's link to the UK domain space needs to be severed completely, even if it means the end of Nominet.

Also, when I was asked for help dealing with him, I learned he had spread some very nasty untruths about me and my character in order to try to save himself and to justify his little venture to Barnsley. Of course, I will be raising a complaint with Nominet regarding this matter, and I am fully aware some of 'Mr Nominet's friends know what I'm talking about. I'll draft my complaint this week and get it sent over.

So, Jeff, we are far from done, unfortunately.

I'm interested, really, in what they offer and what they have actually contributed to our wee little industry and of course public benefit. I believe what I flush down the loo on a morning would do a vastly better job than the pack of clowns that we have tolerated so far.
