Now that dan.com is shutting i will be forced to use afternic,

Does anyone know the best way to swallow the FX and wire fees?

Would it be to use a usd account at wise.com or similar?

Cheers
Karl

Not sure on the wire fees but they do paypal payments as an option, dan.com always covered the paypal fees but not sure if Afternic do (it doesn't look like they do sadly)

Yea, looks like could get hammered on some of the USD to GBP conversions.

Let your bank do it?

Not sure if that is a option? I believe afternic will do the conversion and charge 3% for the pleasure.

Paypal works out very expensive for currency conversions.

Do not let your bank do it. Use Wise.com - I use this as my main bank now. Highstreet banks are not worth the headache.

Not a high street bank. Something like Revolut or Monzo will provide probably a good rate and may even have free limit. I’ve not looked into it. But I have an affiliate link for Revolut if you’re interested in earning £30 while opening a bank. Ends today though I believe, so no pressure 😂

They all do the same, Wise, Monzo, Revolut :) Rates are pretty much the same, I use Wise because it was the first I tested and it worked without issue lol

Okay mate, I didn’t realise but thinking about it, it would make sense competitively.

I've set up an account at wise.com so thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know if I should set my Afternic payment settings to "Local Bank Transfer / SEPA" or "wire transfer"? Trying to work out the correct method to pay to my wise account in GBP. I'm not sure if they consider it as Local as it's set in the US.

I could be wrong but i think you would want to use wire transfer? The local/sepa transfer is where they charge the $5 + 3% FX fee for conversion.

I think they charge $20 for a wire transer, so would have to work out what is cheaper depending on the amount.

Thanks Karl. They charge enough fees at it is so trying to avoid any extra extortionate FX fees so I'm gald you started this thread!

Open up a USD account, then you'll get local USD bank details to pay into, assuming you want to be paid out in USD.

I've opened both a GBP and USD account at wise.com and have set myself to be paid in GBP from Afternic, can't work out which method would be better, to be paid in USD or GBP  does one method avoid more fees than the other..

If it’s a big payment you are probably better off paying the $20 wire fee and getting it sent in $.

Yep looks like the way to go, get paid in USD to wise and let wise do the conversion to GBP.

I assume there are FX fees at afternic? if so, you use Wise, as Wise uses the spot price.
