Looky — A UK Domain Tool

Thanks for everyones feedback and testing so far, very entertaining project lol. Couple of new updates I've been working on:

  • users can now comment on recent lookups
  • some styling updated for count badges
  • spooky
  • performance and security improvements
  • alert system implemented
Count badge is looking like it means that's how many comments there are, however I may adjust it. Taking feedback now. Have fun.

Another little update

  • Recent Lookups now shows domains in pendingDelete
  • Messaging updated for pendingDelete domains and other windows
  • You're welcome

Just a heads up the dark mode comments box probably needs some CSS work as some of the text isn't very readable.

Yeah it does mate, I’ve noticed that. The style as a whole needs a little adjustment, but I’m trying to focus on function over form at present. Thanks for the heads up though.

It looks like there's an offer in there somewhere, @ben

Also, someone is a big fan of gold caps, and gold caps for dickhead(s).

Are the 2 things related?

Showing how many paginated pages there are might be nice, and displaying total number of results. Obviously not key functionality, but a decent UX improvement.

That's a useful suggestion, Chris, thanks.

I think a good feature would be (unless already in the pipeline) it tells you if the domian is still renewable or stuck in Nominets deadly drop timeline :)

That's happens already Paul! If it's in pendingDelete status it'll show tell you, it'll also show on the recent drops with an hourglass icon for that search. On the contrary then, it will also advise you whether or not it's still within the 90 day expiry window (still renewable).:D

Someone must have a lot of time on their hands. Sometimes over 500 requests per day for this type of stuff since launch, it was funny at first, but now? Dude, are you OK?

Probably someone rinsing a list through your service to get the details? Maybe you should be flattered haha

It's definitely someone doing it manually, if someone looks up a genuine domain, the fake lookups will follow the same sort of trend.

One big problem for me with this site - if I do a look up on a domain I want to buy it's going to appear on your homepage for everyone else to look into too. Not something I want if I'm about to email them an offer.

I have thought about this, and I feel like that is a non-issue, just because not everybody is going to be in that mindset and really, if they were going to do it, wouldn't they have done it already? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?

From my point of view, I occasionally want to look up who owns a domain because I've got a Majestic tab open and I want to buy the domain.

It would be a massive own goal for me to look it up on your site, have it land on your homepage and draw attention to it to other potential domain buyers.

But would they not just have bought that domain anyway if they wanted to? Not sure I understand. If I search up domain.uk and it appears in the recent lookups, nobody is going to go "Oh that's a nice domain, let me search that as well, I think I might buy it!", are they?

I've certainly not been tempted so far by the 'goldcap' related domains searched for.

Tempted to remove that feature now, to avoid the spam, but I have a feeling it might be what they want.
