Nominet Board elections 2025: Kieren McCarthy v Rob Golding

This year, two candidates were nominated by members. One completed the process, but after initial dialogue with the second candidate we were unable to reach them to complete the process.

Is this related to the shenanigans last year or in 2023, or is it a new storyline in the psychodrama that is Nominet governance?

I don’t believe it’s related at all. This year, the incumbent, Steve Wright, stood for re-election and is the only candidate, so I believe he will be elected unopposed. There is only one seat up for election this year.

It has not been announced who the other potential candidate was who decided not to proceed further with the process, but I don’t believe it was Rob Golding. Kieren McCarthy was re-elected last year.

The last comparable occasion was in 2011, when two seats were up for election and only two candidates stood, meaning both were elected unopposed: https://www.theregister.com/on-prem...on-called-off-due-to-lack-of-interest/1336922
