*cornDomains Forum Attracts New Talent

Thanks, I'll check those videos out.

As discussed earlier in this very thread, Helmuts is so naive that it's possible he's unaware of Dicker's reputation.

He’s took a swing of the bat and tried to apply his model that has worked on his other forums, to oldcorn. In trying to take the emotion out of it and be more “super cool businessman” he’s done exactly that, took the emotion out of it. The community spirit is deceased.

Another lurker here. I've been following AD for around 15 years, from Alan to Steve to Helmuts, and UKDF when the Hubbards were more active.

I've been watching this whole shitshow go down like the rest of you. It's a shame to kill a community, but thankfully new ones pop up in its place.

A little while ago I was looking at the history of Helmuts' reddit account - it goes back to 2016 and gives a bit of a picture of what Helmuts is like and how he interacts with people. Sadly, it doesn't seem like he's changed a huge amount in that time. From what we can see, there's definitely some struggles conversing with people and understanding social cues and using the right tone, have a look at some of these for instance:
Picking up on these isn't meant to be a dig at Helmuts, it's just an observation that effective communication doesn't come naturally to him and as we've seen with AD the position of power and poor communication has resulted in a lot of grief on all fronts, loss of content for AD, and far too many recent conversations being disappeared.

I'd like to hope he's better at interacting with people in person but we all saw the weird sponsor deal be awkwardly shoved at Ryan Ewan on stream, and now he's fucked off too.

It looks like everyone had a fab time at Domain Summit, though I'd be happy as larry too with a free ticket and a bit of entertainment and nibbles for a few days.

It may be too late for AD to recover, but I really hope Helmuts can learn from what he's done and be better at whatever comes next. And get some social skills coaching for the betterment of everybody!

I might be going out on a ledge here, but I just feel that doxxing his Reddit history is not really what we’re here for. Helmuts is evidently not a first language English speaker, which is already a barrier in a primarily English speaking market. I also feel like he might just be autistic. Lot to unpack. Either way, I feel like some people here are getting too personal.

Yeah I'm not sure he's done anything to justify the deep dive into his history, he's just not very good at running communities and doesn't understand that the value in online communities is entirely in the participation of the members and the resulting user generated content. Nothing more, nothing less. He's a square peg, for a round hole. Would have been better off buying a SaaS business or marketplace or something, like DNWE which Ryan Ewan bought.

I don't know. I really don't think it's that deep. In reality, it's just due diligence.

I think the Reddit history helps you learn more about him, how his mind works, and it helps individuals paint their own picture of his character, which people should be doing prior to doing business with someone relatively unknown.

Though it does make me wonder why he thinks the members who have since left Acorn were the issue with getting large businesses involved in the forum, and not the entirety of his character and personality, which is definitively unprofessional in pretty much every aspect.

Completely agree that 'booth babes' should stay firmly in the 90s and early 00s. I'm a Norwich City fan and us fans forced to the club to rescind on our largest ever shirt sponsorship deal with an Asian betting company when it transpires that they effectively use soft porn in their marketing in their Asian markets.

Still a bit jealous of the first photo though :ROFLMAO:

I remember the 'booth babes' thread on AD... as I know I chipped in with a few thoughts of my own. Can't find it though

That reminds me... when he weirdly tried to 'deep dive' into me and found naff all. I contributed to that models thread - which was deleted - and someone (!) trawled tweets to try and do a thing as I complemented the sale of Models.co.uk 13 years prior - that post still remains. So it appears he isn't adverse to people doing a look back...

Thankfully there are no pictures of me stood next to a pair of tits online, although if anyone wants the photo from the Nom member thing where I am with Bennett and MZ I can post it up bah dum tish

I see H from Steps has received some good advice in his plea for help but he has not responded. Hopefully he will take it on board. To err is to be human.

This place feels like it could be a continuation of the spirit of the old place, Denys is a steady pair of hands and trusted through many years of running DomainLore.

Should probably just write off Acorn and embrace 4m.uk. Unless Helmuts has a reasonable selling price in mind for Acorn and realises he needs to cut his losses, in the very near future.

I wonder what he paid for it, Napier strikes me as somebody who drives a hard bargain, so probably much more than he should have.

I feel like we're going back in time, he doesn't host AD cause things went sour, right? I got the impression that he was supposed to turn up to a past Omain Ummit but didn't for whatever reason? It was at least a year since he was hosting him, I think?

I always laughed at how much that guy thought he was an authority on DNs. In my opinion he wasn't/isn't. Throwing utter shit names out into the ether and then coming up with utter rubbish about why they were good.

God it was painful.

Then H would act surprised that the utter shit was available to register.

99% of these it.com subdomains going for "premium" prices $2000+ are the same. Utter shite.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I'm sure it was on one of his podcasts and someone put to him that he paid around £20,000-£24,000.

Helmut seemed to give some gesture of facial expression that seemed to confirm that was true or around that mark anyway.

Does anybody know what happened to make Ryan Ewan leave Acorn then?

My guess is a fallout after backing out (quite rightly) of the 'half sponsorship' that he awkwardly committed to when Helmuts put him on the spot on that video. I see that DNWE ultimately took a lesser/minor sponsorship spot.

I'm sure Ryan Ewan makes plenty of money from his portfolio and whatever stake he has in the family business, he paid $40,000 for DNWE apparently, but Flip.uk, Brandable.uk & DNWE together are probably profit neutral at best. The first two are entirely reliant on donations aren't they? (aside from probably flogging a few of his domains). Effectively altruistic endeavours at this point, and DNWE doesn't get much activity these days (although that one does have real potential).

I'm guessing that Helmuts felt that he was giving Ryan Ewan and his businesses a platform, with little quid pro quo, but they are essentially hobby businesses at this point, it was a really unrealistic ask. I can't imagine that sponsoring an event like that would be cheap, when you look at the huge cost of the tickets, just buying a ticket (if full price) is a big gesture of support!

Ryan Ewan actually comes across like a decent bloke, I do wonder if the events which led to the closure of the last forum (as covered comprehensively by Greywing) were the result of an uncharacteristic rush of blood to the head, or being badly advised by a third party.

He should really buy himself a designer gold hat though if he wants to make that part of his brand, rather than one which looks like it came off the local market for a tenner :ROFLMAO:

I thought it was upward of £50k, but I could be wildly wrong. Steve drives a hard bargain, but you can negotiate with him (on his terms).
